Foxy Deer - The Nightlife of Parry Sound

Day 2: Parry Sound

In the car, leaving Chesley for our Western adventure!

Yesterday we arrived in Parry Sound to Tim and Michelle's house around 6 pm. We were immediately whisked away to a garden party - aka baby shower - for one of Tim's teacher friends. It was free food, and there was lots of fruit, so no complaint here. After crashing the party, Michelle and the girls played hide-and-go-seek while I set up the trailer. Tomorrow I'll set up by myself with no entertainment for the kids - at least no live entertainment. It was a pleasant night overall, but what made it unique was catching a glimpse of two young foxes, one with something in its mouth, later that evening as Tim and I  got ice from Mac's, and then upon returning home, seeing a deer cross the road at the exact same location. It is possible that I saw more wildlife in Parry Sound than I'll see for vast stretches of the trip (I also saw a ground hog as we exited highway 400).

Tim and Michelle with two superheroes and a uncertain Evelyn - who had just woken up from a sudden nap after being knocked out by Benadryl given her reaction to mosquito bites.

Last night I also opened my first of six surprise beers for my journey. The lovely wrapped beverages below were a gift from my friends Marc and Celene, who wanted me to be able to relax at the end of each night. Last night, although I wasn't alone, I still opened number one. It was appropriately called "Voyager", an IPA by Renaissance Brewing in New Zealand. Attached to each bottle is a little note. It was a fantastic gift, and is something to look forward to each night. Other friends, Brian and Verena, and their daughters, got the girls gifts for the trip - most importantly in the grab bag of goodies was a little fan with candy. Those fans have been running continuously. As I'm not running the AC too often as I pull the trailer, they are quite handy as well.

My gift from Marc & Celene.

As the girls stir on the morning of day 3, I am chatting with Leia one last time on Facebook, and getting excited about the next stop - Rabbit Blanket Lake campground in Lake Superior Provincial Park. It is a tad longer of a drive today than I would hope, so I need to start packing this trailer.

I'll try to post each day, but internet is now scarce for this travelling man. I'll write blogs either way and post them for you when I can.
