Chesley Sluggers

Day 1: Kitchener - Chesley

At the last minute, a new destination was added to our trip - Chesley. This is the little town where Amos, Faith and Eden reside. We had visited once before, but that was during the winter months, and the town was buried beneath snow.

This stop marks the last time the girls and I will see Isaac and Erica for a year. At the end of July I&E depart for a year in Uganda, where Isaac will complete his final year of studies and Erica will work as a teacher.

Evelyn received the best greeting when we arrived, as Eden was super excited and literally ran to her with arms wide open, a huge smile on her face. I took advantage of their mutual love for each other on our walk.

Even though we're at Amos and Faith's, as I&E and Leah also came, we set up the trailer in the driveway. This was the first night the entire family slept in the trailer. Aside from Evelyn's tossing and turning while itching her 'bo-squito' bites, and Bhaer's "singing" this morning, it was a good sleep. I suspect that Chesley might be quieter at night than campgrounds.

An important lesson learned: make sure the trailer wiring harness is not directly behind the exhaust. I melted mined a bit, and had to replace it. As I typically do no work on my own vehicles, I felt super special.

Yesterday we spent several hours playing baseball, while the girls climbed fences. Afterwards, we all jumped on a 'flying saucer' -- otherwise known as death traps -- in the park. It was a good night, but made us wish that we could more regularly get together to smack a few balls around.

Amos was self-pitching, so the awkward swing can partially be attributed to that. The other reason is his lack of skill. :)

The kids enjoyed climbing the fence and the backstop - and often got far too high.

Leia staring down her pitch with her determined face -- perhaps this is where Marley got her 'mean face' from!

A very tired Evelyn at the end of a long day with Uncle Isaac.

As Leia fries bacon and eggs, I am mentally prepping for the next few days. By "prepping" I mean sitting at the table drinking a coffee and ignoring the kids. Today I travel only a few hours to Parry Sound to visit with Tim and Michelle, but I do travel alone. But first, time to head back to the park to smack a few more balls around.
